Karl-Martin Skontorp

I'm Karl-Martin Skontorp, a software developer and technology enthusiast based in Tønsberg, Norway. I've been working with computers, electronics and networks for more than 30 years, and still enjoy figuring out how things work — whether that means digging through a Linux system, debugging a network, writing software, or taking some piece of hardware apart.

Professionally, I work as a developer at Kraftlauget, with a broad background spanning software development, cloud infrastructure and operations. Over the years I've worked with everything from C and Linux for ship automation systems to web applications, machine learning, infrastructure and cloud platforms. I enjoy building things, improving how they are built and operated, and solving problems that don't fit neatly into a single discipline.

A lot of the same curiosity carries over into my spare time. I'm interested in Linux and open-source software, networking and home automation, electronics and amateur radio, maps and OpenStreetMap, GNSS and satellites, astronomy and the night sky. I also enjoy experimenting with small technical projects — the sort that tend to involve a Raspberry Pi, an ESP32, an antenna, a strange protocol, or some combination of all four.

Away from computers, I enjoy cycling, hiking and being outdoors, photography, brewing beer, cooking and live music. My interests have a habit of turning into projects, and projects have a habit of acquiring more equipment than originally intended. This website is partly a home for some of those projects, notes and experiments, and partly simply a corner of the web that is mine.
